10 Things To Do In Amsterdam

Amsterdam has got something for everyone. You can enjoy impressive architecture, ornate mansions, lovely canals, museums & art galleries, great shopping malls, theatres, concert halls, restaurants, cafés, bars, and many more. Located in the south of the province North Holland, the Dutch capital is your destination for a myriad of pleasures. You can do a lot of things to get fun and pleasure in Amsterdam.

Vondelpark, 120 acres of gardens covered by footpaths and watercourses, is the place where you can find tarot readers, magicians, arty performers, fire-eaters and other comedians that will entertain you. You can also enjoy performances in the small amphitheatre on the island near the park centre.

Visit Dam Square, near the Royal Palace, the Nieuwe Kerk, and the War Memorial. The Dam square is a stage for many celebratory street performers. Here, you can find food stalls, restaurants and shops in abundance, including the trendy Bijenkorf, Magna Plaza, Bonneterie and the Amsterdam Diamond centre. Other must see places in Dam Square are Madame Tussauds, the New Church (Nieuwe Kerk) and Beurs van Berlage.

Amsterdam’s Bloemenmarkt is the only floating flower market in the world. You can really have a wonderful time in the company of colorful flowers and people from all around the world.

You can really have great pleasure checking out the country’s ancient museum, Rijksmuseum. The Rijksmuseum displays the supreme collection of 17th-century Dutch works of sculpture. ‘The Masterpieces’ exhibit the paintings by Dutch masters Rembrandt, Vermeer and Frans Hals, and a eye-catching compilation of fine Delftware, silver and other artifacts.

Amsterdam’s canals are perhaps the most attractive features of the city. You can hire an open-top canal boat or self-pedaled ‘canal bike’, to relish dozens of spectacular Amsterdam sights instantly including 17th-century mansions, tree-lined neighborhoods, quirky houseboats and dazzling structural design ranging from gothic to contemporary.

Your trip to Amsterdam would be incomplete without a walk through the red light district. It is quite interesting and fascinating. The Amsterdam Red Light District covers up a huge area of the city’s oldest part. The district is full of cinemas, sex shops, hotels, brothels, gay bars and various museums. Every year, millions of visitants come to see this lively and exhilarating part of Amsterdam.

If you really want to visit stunning, striking and gorgeous place, go to the Magere Brug or Skinny Bridge over the Amstel River. On its one side, you can see Carré Theater, and the Stopera (Ballet/Opera/City Hall) on the other. You just stand for a few minutes to get pleasure from the view and to watch people walking/biking by.

You can also enjoy walking thru ‘The 9 Streets’, which is one of Amsterdam’s most exclusive and impressive areas. The deluxe Maisonette apartment is situated in Reestraat surrounded by the Prinsengracht and Keizersgracht canals. The area has a village-type of atmosphere and it shows off many of the city’s supreme picture galleries, bars, dress shops, coffeehouses, delicatessens, shops and eating places. It is absolutely a gourmet’s and shopper’s paradise.

You can also enjoy watching a movie in Tuschinski, which is a big, Art Deco movie palace situated between the Munt tower and the Rembrandtplein. It was opened in 1921, and now it has been completely modernized and is today one of the release cinemas in the city. When you are in Amsterdam, don’t forget to watch ‘Blijburg Beach’. It is located on IJburg, the new islands in the East of Amsterdam.
